Odysseum- Das Abenteuermuseum

The Odysseum is an awesome children’s science museum in Köln. The girls love coming here. I’ve been meaning to blog about this place for a while now. Most of these pics and vids are from a few different visits almost 2 years ago-yikes! Better late than never?

This installation was cool. It teaches kids to write in bits and shows how letters are encoded in a computer. In the pic above it says, “How does a computer write with electricity?” Quinnie wrote Liebe (German for “love”-no space for the last e at the end).

Kiera wanted to write it in English

Quinnie writing her name using bits (not sure what’s going on with her sweatshirt there-lol).

Vortex station. Quinnie especially liked this one (as you can see in the video below)..

There were many more cool water installations (the one above was about erosion control along rivers).

The pic on the left  says, “How does an astronaut go to the toilet?” There’s a camera inside the toilet so that kids can see their (clothed) butts sitting down on the toilet. They have to hit the mark perfectly so that the vacuum in the toilet can suck away what they (pretend to) put in there. Needless to say, all the kids love this one!

Learning about pulleys. The girls thought it was awesome that they could beat Papa at tug-of-war with the help of a pulley!

I forget what this was about. Maybe something about building the Kölner Dom?

Papa definitely loved this place also!

The girls using the flight simulator. VERY cool.

Quinnie gearing up for the Hochseilgarten. This activity is really popular- there are always just as many adults in line as kids!

As I was putting this post together Kiera climbed onto my lap to see all the pics and said, “I love that place! Can we go there again?”

The Girls Lately

And by “lately” I mean the past 18 months, because I am a lazy blogger. Here’s a collection of random pics not used in other posts…

at the Duck Pond (one of their old favorites)

IMG_0442

This one is from when we were still living at The Weckschnapp

IMG_2961

Had to include this pic because it is so typical of life with kids. Completely random things scattered all over the floor (broom, flashlight, massage cane, colored pencil, tissues, a book, a discarded art project..)

I cannot keep the mirrors in our place clean. Here are pics of our bathroom mirror one day after I cleaned them. For some reason that I don’t understand the girls cannot resist pawing a clean mirror.

They love this book. And I love when books inspire kids to be creative (R).

“Mama! Check our our talons!”

Spin Art will always be a favorite. I loved it as a kid also (still do!).

IMG_9331

They also love doing these melty bead art projects..

IMG_1666

Quinnie’s pretty psyched that she gets to use the iron by herself now..

Kids here are really into exotic erasers. They’re often given out at birthday parties. Here’s a small selection of Quinnie and Kiera’s collection.

IMG_1641

She came home from school wearing this on her sweater (a love note from Kiera)..

IMG_1643

Kiera loves Quinnie so much. Quinnie is definitely her favorite person in the world.

the iPad is loved by all the kids, and time limits have had to be enforced (much to their dismay)

They remain nature lovers and are always collecting “special” flowers, plants, rocks, sticks, etc.

IMG_9274

IMG_9421

Poor Quinnie can’t get any peace. Kiera wants to sit next to her even when she’s on the toilet!

If there’s something to climb, it will be climbed!

I love that they often choose to sleep in the same bed.

I’m so glad they have each other.
