Opa and cousin Maxim picked us up at the airport in Frankfurt and drove us the two hours to Cologne (Köln). We were all pretty jet-lagged due to the 9 hour time difference and pulling an all-nighter the night before (Quinnie woke up at 2am the night before our flight and we let her stay up- she was WAY too excited to go back to sleep). We all went directly to Oma and Opa’s house. They have an amazing playground across the street from their house so we spent lots of time there to try and stay awake and get acclimated to our new time zone.

Our old friend Määtes (above) stopped by to welcome us. Tante Ruth came by after work to join us for dinner. Then we went to our new home, The Weckschnapp (more on this later). We live directly across the street from The Rhine so we decided to go for a nighttime stroll along the river. Quinnie somehow managed to fall in (only up to her knees luckily), and then we walked all the way to the jaw-dropping Kölner Dom. We went into the huge train station (Hauptbahnhof) to get currywurst with fries. Kiera fell asleep on Simon’s shoulders on the walk back home. A busy, wonderful first day in Köln.
